The future of Captain America and the set up for Avengers: Age of Ultron!

After unveiling a colossal nine-film contract, it looks as though The Winter Soldier might be around for quite some time but will he be taking over Captain America?

That’s right, it looks as though ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ star Sebastian Stan is going to be a long-term addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But while we’re forced to wait to find out what happens to this new, decidedly-Russian operative, it seems we already know he’ll be around for a long time. But could this mean that the ‘Captain America’ saga will follow the story of the comic books? Will Sebastian Stan take over as Captain America?

In an interview, Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier) discussed his all-new Marvel contract and when asked how many films that was likely to include, it seems it’s a lot more than we thought.

“I think I think I actually have nine,” he said. “Yeah, it’s great job security.”

While ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ is yet to hit cinemas across the UK, it looks as though we can be fairly certain that this won’t be the last we’ve seen of Sebastian Stan.

But does this mean a change is coming when it comes to who wears the Captain America suit?

We already know that current Captain America, Chris Evans, has only signed a six-movie deal and if you take ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ into account it will only leave just two more outings for the original Steve Rogers. Those being the recently announced Cap 3 and Avengers 3.

But rather than looking to recast, it seems as though Marvel might actually follow the ‘Winter Soldier’ comic book which allowed Bucky Barnes to take on the mantle of Captain America.

But it’s a solution to the problem of what to do when Chris Evans doesn’t want to reprise his role and after recent comments that he’s looking to step away from acting after his Marvel contract is up, it looks like that could be sooner rather than later.

Thankfully, Sebastian Stan is now, it seems, signed up for a nine-picture deal and that could well place him in line to pick up where Chris Evans leaves off. Of course, there’s no confirmation from Marvel at this point, but it seems like a sensible and very interesting step.

Unfortunately, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Keeping to Captain America, Details of ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s two credits scenes have been revealed.

Following the same format set by 2012’s ‘Avengers Assemble’ and last year’s ‘Thor: The Dark World’, the Cap sequel will have one scene halfway through its credits and one after they’ve finished rolling.

Be warned, major spoilers!

The details come from Dutch comic site BrainFreeze.be, whose review has been partially translated below.

Scene 1:
After the fall of both SHIELD and HYDRA we see Baron Von Strucker (Thomas Kretschmann) in his underground laboratory. His men have the scepter of Loki, as well as two special prisoners. None other than Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen).

The super-fast Quicksilver bounces from one side of his cell to another, while Scarlet Witch blocks stacks with her thoughts. Von Strucker proclaims that ‘The Age of Miracles’ is near. And thus we immediately know how mutants are listed in the Marvel movie universe.

Scene 2:
We see the Winter Soldier incognito Captain America-exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum. Here he encounters the information about James Buchanan ‘Bucky’ Barnes. It plays threatening music, but this Winter Soldier seems indeed to have realised who he really is and that Captain America was telling the truth.”

It was rumoured last month that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch would make their debuts in the post-credit sequence, and those rumours were absolutely spot on.

The main take away from the first scene is that HYDRA are back in force and are in possession of the mutant siblings. Due to Fox having the rights to the X-Men, Marvel cannot refer to the characters as mutants, so ‘miracles’ could be one of the terms used instead.

It will also be good to see Thomas Kretschmann in action as Baron Von Strucker ahead of ‘Age of Ultron’, as well as Johnson and Olsen. Introducing three major characters a year in advance is a good move as it gets them into the spotlight well in advance of next year’s film.

It also means that Marvel’s Quicksilver will be the first to appear on the big screen. Fox’s own version of the character will appear in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ in May.

As for scene 2, the moment of realisation for The Winter Soldier could be a turning point for him as he discover he is in fact Captain America’s friend Bucky Barnes. It could be taken as a sign that the character will become a force for good in future films.
